KABIRS SCULPTURESQUE TAPESTRIES AT ZAINUL GALLERY

“Shafiqul kabir an accomplished artist has notched up remarkable credit to his respective field and his works bear the testimony to his excellence. His creative systemization of traditional designs with various elements of folk art just reminds us of his artistic strength as well as the inner liveliness of these simple objects. Tapestry like paintings; have grown through various phases, thematically and structurally like from religious motif to secular idea. Shafiqul’s works have an abstract quality, which is the present trend of tapestry.”

TRADITION WEAVES ITS WAY INTO MODERN TAPESTRY

“Rope hangers recur in his tapestry designs just as his childhood memories of rural milieu- earthen pots, bamboo housings and knotted pillars. The uses of overhead knots, buttonhole knots, various knitting techniques as well as impulsive personal touches have made each tapestries different but difficult for commercial reproduction.”
- The Eastern Age, 13 July 1999,India

WEAVING EMOTIONS TO TAPESTRY IN ITALY

His art works underline the restlessness of his creative personality in stretching the limits of his decorative arts for "expression and transmission of remembered emotions." Kabir has started in Italy - the other way round with the design orientation of medium, with his own peculiar sensitivity to personal colour combinations and tactual tendons.
